::Mr Morek – Elixir::
Mr Morek has impressed with releases on Disco Halal & Needwant and this double-header for Exploited shows that his sophisticated melodic sound is becoming ever-more formidable.
‘Elixir’ combines elements of techno, progressive and electro in seamless style, making for a brooding masterpiece of a track. Nagging monotone bass punches out a morse code rhythm as a shuffling rhythm builds and trippy vocal samples play a dramatic riff. Stefan Bodzin-style chord stabs rise to the fore in the dizzying, stripped-back breakdown, returning only after a reduction in the arrangement to the track’s bare bones. Subtle, sensual and classy.
‘King’ ambles along at a similarly chuggy pace, with a bruising electro lead woven into colourful splashes of synth melody and a tense chord progression. Spacey FX abound in the breakdown with heavy reverb sending us spinning into the ether, the lead returning with renewed ferocity after the drop. An uncluttered arrangement ensures that all these juicy pieces of the puzzle have enough room to breathe, making for a sleek, sinewy track.
