Victoria Hesketh knows a thing or two about reinvention. As Little Boots, she’s toured the globe and has written three critically-acclaimed albums. As a DJ her ties with the dance culture are deep and long-running. From her first legendary white label release ‘Stuck On Repeat’, produced by Joe Goddard, to gracing Mixmag’s cover, it’s hard to think of another popstar to have garnered as much credibility from the dance world’s inner-circle. From collaborating with dance royalty Maya Jane Coles, Hercules and Love Affair and Simian Mobile Disco, to her own decorated DJ career, highlights including her live set for Mixmag Lab which has clocked up over 1.4 million views.
The sleepless workaholic of house grooves, and Exploited regular, Joyce Muniz first met Victoria when on tour in Los Angeles, where their musical connection and friendship began, leading to Joyce working on her track ‘Shadows’ which was released as part of her 3rd album ‘Burn’. So, it’s no surprise they’re back with this sexy vocal driven track to kick off 2019 right.
“I actually told Victoria that I was unlucky in love with a girl, and she composed the vocals around that story for this track. She always manages to get the perfect message across with her words and bring energy and love to my productions” – says Joyce.
‘Strange Girl’ tells the familiar tale of a meeting with a girl considered something of an outsider; a trope within house music that connects and inspires many of its protagonists. Alongside Hesketh’s siren-like voice, Muniz constructs a deeply emotive groove of warm notes, snappy laser FX and bubbling acid sweeps. On ‘Ain’t No Stopping’ Joyce builds a more robust late-night jam with ricochet male vocals, tight percussive energy and a killer 303 hook.
“This lead track is the perfect combination of all my feelings”– adds Joyce.
